About this trip

The shortest package in the set and the only one that never leaves a single city. Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, so the old Morocco here is a hilltop kasbah, a walled souk and a purpose-built new medina rather than a medieval maze — which makes it an easy first landing for anyone who wants sun before history.

Two full days do the work: the fishing harbour, Agadir Oufella and Souk El Had on the first, Crocoparc and a free afternoon on the second. Dinner is booked at an Indian restaurant every night and lunch is left open. If you want the coastline as well, the four-night version adds a day on the coast at Legzira.

What you go for

  • Agadir Oufella, the hilltop kasbah over the bay and the ports
  • Souk El Had, walled and gated, from spices to furniture
  • An argan house, and how the oil and its derivatives are pressed
  • Crocoparc and its several generations of Nile crocodiles

The route

Day by day

Times are the operator's planned schedule. They shift with the season, the light and the traffic on the day.

  1. Day 1

    Arrival at Al Massira, Agadir

    On arrival

    Al Massira airport

Met in the arrivals hall and driven into Agadir.

    Check in at your hotel.

    Evening

    Dinner

At an Indian restaurant in the city. Overnight at your hotel.

  2. Day 2

The port, the kasbah and the souk

    Morning

    Breakfast at the hotel.

    Morning

    The fishing port

Your driver and escort guide start at the working harbour on the Atlantic, the centre of Morocco’s sardine trade and still the reason half the city gets up early.

    Agadir Oufella

The old kasbah stands on the heights above the town, and the reason to climb it is the view — the whole sweep of the bay and both ports laid out below.

    Souk El Had

A walled market with several gates and a genuine hypermarket’s worth of range inside: furniture, crafts, clothing, vegetables, butchery, spices. Free time to work through it at your own pace.

    Afternoon

The new medina and an argan house

Purpose-built and worked by craftsmen who are generally happy to explain what they are doing, with a museum, bazaars and a garden inside it. The day finishes at an argan house, where the oil and its derivatives are pressed and explained.

    Evening

Back to the hotel, then dinner at an Indian restaurant. Overnight at your hotel.

  3. Day 3

    Crocoparc, then a free afternoon

    Morning

    Breakfast at the hotel.

    Morning

    Crocoparc

Founded as a conservation project and now home to several generations of Nile crocodiles. The enclosures are large, which matters when the males reach six metres, and the grounds are planted well enough to be worth the walk on their own.

    Afternoon

Lunch at leisure, then the afternoon is yours.

    Evening

Dinner at an Indian restaurant. Overnight at your hotel.

  4. Day 4

    Departure

    Morning

    Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to Al Massira airport for your onward travel.
